Both actions live in the engine's Settings page. Deletion is in a clearly marked danger zone and cannot be undone.
How do I get to Settings?
Open your engine from My Engines, then select Settings in the left navigation.
How do I rename my engine?
The General section at the top of Settings shows the current engine name in an editable field labeled Engine name. Update it and save.
How do I delete an engine?
Scroll to the Danger zone section at the bottom of Settings. Click Delete next to "Delete engine."
A confirmation dialog opens. It shows:
- When the engine will actually stop (it continues running until the end of its paid term, then stops and all canisters are removed).
- Whether any emergency balance will be refunded. The unspent emergency balance is returned to your original payment method if the engine is still active. If the engine is already frozen and the emergency balance is counting down, it is in use and will not be refunded.
- The committed term remaining and that node provider payments are not refunded.
To confirm, type the engine name into the confirmation field and click Delete engine.
What exactly happens when I delete an engine?
- The engine's auto-renewal is cancelled immediately.
- The engine continues running until the end of its paid term, then stops.
- All canisters and their data are permanently removed when it stops.
- The unspent emergency balance (if any, and if the engine is not already frozen) is refunded via Stripe to the original payment method.
- Node provider payments for the committed term are not refunded.
- This cannot be undone.
