Frequently asked questions

Before you start

How is a cloud engine different from AWS, Azure, or GCP?

You choose the exact nodes and locations that run your apps, and that selection is verifiable rather than a contractual promise. There is no operating system to patch and no admin team to run.

Do I need to know anything about blockchain or ICP to use this?

No. You create an engine, pay by card, and deploy apps. The protocol handles the rest and stays out of your way.

Do I need a crypto wallet or tokens to pay?

No. Billing is in fiat by credit card.

Where will my engine physically run?

In the region or regions you pick during creation. Node locations are recorded in a public registry you can check.

Can I verify which nodes actually ran my code?

Yes. Every response is signed by the engine's key and can be checked against the NNS (Network Nervous System) root key.

Creating and running an engine

How long does it take to create an engine?

It provisions on its own, usually within minutes. The status moves from provisioning to running, and we email you once it is up.

Can I resize my engine after creating it?

Changing nodes from the console is coming soon. For now, contact support if you need a change.

What happens if one of my nodes fails?

The engine keeps running on its remaining nodes. Replacing a node is a normal live operation, not downtime.

Can more than one person manage an engine?

You can grant administration through subnet admins today. Inviting teammates to your organization is coming soon.

Billing

What am I charged, and when?

You pay for the nodes you reserve, with a one-month prepayment at creation. Your next charge and full history are in Organization billing.

What happens if a payment fails?

The console flags it in billing. Update the card on file, and contact support if it persists.

Can I get a refund?

Only the unspent emergency balance is refunded, returned when you delete or cancel the engine. Node commitments are paid in full for the term and are not refundable.

What happens to my apps and data if I delete an engine?

Deletion is permanent. It ends the engine, its nodes, and anything deployed on it.

Access and help

Is there a password to sign in?

No password. You sign in with a passkey using Internet Identity.

I lost the device with my passkey. How do I get back in?

Recovery follows Internet Identity's process. If you are locked out, contact support.

How do I get help?
